Rival Kings at WIFAG Bern

What would you imagine “AUAwirleben – die Fete” (AUAwearealive – the party) to be? A real party with loud music and drinks, isn’t it? Well, not clue what AUA means. If only someone would have told us, that it is rather a quite extrem cultural event. Got to say, theatre isn’t mine. And the weird lecture, this “Proposal” before the concert, was rather irritating.

But it was one of these day, I could have flip myself over out of anticipation. I loved Rival Kings at Kufa so much [Blog: Zwischen Strassen, Shops und Klubs]. I couldn’t wait to see the Luzern band llive again. But there we were standing last Friday at 9.15 pm at WIFAG and nothing was on. The hall was mainly empty. Just next to the door the stage was standing, what we didn’t think was ideal. There were carboard cubes standing in the hall – obviously for decoration. There was a bar and some kind of kitchen. Everything packed into carboard and lettered. Some were sitting at the tables eating. The food was smelling nicely. But it didn’t look like a party.

I actually thought the concert started at 10 pm. So we sat there, had a drink and took some of the placements with the printed games, played some rounds of “ladders & snakes”. Only shortly before the concert started, around 11pm, busses suddendly stopped in front of the location and to our relief a big crowed came in. We saw us already standing in front of the stage on our own (you probably saw before, how people are standing 1-2 meters away from stage, if there are not too many spectactors?!). Before the band entered stage, there was a ca. 15min “Proposal” of any group. The whole thin in English. Some kind of poem or lecture. What it was about, I don’t exactly know. Couldn’t really concentrate on it and siply waited for it to end. I am not made for this. For me it just was rather weird.

I was so glad when Rival Kings finally entered stage and they started their concert. I was there because of them. And only for them. For weeks I play their album “Citizen” up and down, just can’t get enough. Their lyrics, cool fast beats and great melodies, the whole energy. Just brillaint! And so they started with their first song – with full impact. It was only the second time I was them live. And I didn’t get disappointed – even when the band thought after the concert, that they weren’t too content. Well, I didn’t ask in detail why (but most bands are not so content in general anyway?). Well, they didn’t get the gratest audience. However there were some people, who liked songs like “Citizens”, “On The RuN”, “Echoes”, “Lights” or “walls” as much as I do and were twiching the legs, some were even dancing.

It was a very good evening in the end. Well, it weren’t the most exciting events in the last days. But as the bands were great and good friends with me, and I loved to see the bands like here at AUA fest, it was super! And I just got a ticket for Sunday at Gurtenfestival  – Rival Kings are going to play on Waldbühne this year.
