The Rabbis at Sihlcity Zurich

I don’t exactly know how it is abroad, but if you follow a band here in Switzerland, you will soon discovere several other bands, where the individual musician play with as well. And so I discovered The Rabbis. I took the chance to see the band live at “Movecity”.

The Rabbis are Dom Gabriel (Leadvocals, drums), Sam Shephard (bass, backings), Christian Wild (keyboard), Stefan Wild (guitare) and Lukas Stadler (guitare, backings). They are a coverband and play what the like themselves the most – these are, among others, songs by Ryan Adams, Tom Petty, John Mayer, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Oasis – genres as rock, blues, folk. The concert took part on the occasion of the movecity-event, some sports event at Sihlcity in Zurich and entrance was free.

The stage was standing under a bridge, wasn’t really covered this way though. First it looked like it might start raining, but luckily the weather was steady. Would it have started pouring down, it wouldn’t have been fun and couldn’t have taken place. Next to acquaintances and relatives of the band, there were mainly listeners, who came for the movecity-event or where shopping at the shopping centre.

The first thing I noticed with the band: The drummer’s singing! He’s the lead singer, what is rarely seen. And he really sings great. They played songs, that weren’t really familiar to me, that I liked very well though. E.g. the song “New York New York” by Ryan Adams. So they could have been their own songs, I honestly wouldn’t have known the difference 😉 I was actually so tired because of the earlier Luca Little / Zibbz tour and the grey weather didn’t really help either. But the Rabbis are playing so rarely, I just had to go. And their concert was just the right thing to start into the weekend. It was such a nice and super relaxed concert.

So if you get the chance, go and have a listen to them. The next concert takes place on 17th December at Bar Rossi in Zurich.

Infos about the band you can find on www.therabbis.net or on Facebook.
