Thursday again. And Kodaline inspired me this week as they talked about Boyzone and Steve about how he used to try to copy Ronan Keating… 😉 Yes, 28 June 2008, RDS Arena in Dublin – Boyzone were back and on “Back again … No Matter What” tour. They of course stopped in their home town. I just had to be there. No matter what.
You remember, Boyzone have been one of THE boygroups in the 90s with Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Mikey Graham, Keith Duffy and Stephen Gatley († 2009). Their hits back then were songs like “No Matter What”, “Father And Son” as well as “Words”. After a 7 years break they celebrated with their tour their comeback in 2008. So, off to Geneva, flying over to Dublin. I landed around noon and more or less directly went to RDS arena, meeting friends, queuing for the doors opening. We had good spots. 🙂
Sugababes should have been support act, but they didn’t come then and there were several ones then. There were three female support acts – a girlgroup and two solo singers. At the moment I only know that one of them was Laura Critchley, a singer/songwriter from UK. She’s apparently performing nowadays as Elsie 😉
The concert was great – of course, a typical boygroup concert, during which you sometimes kept wondering who was copying who. Some reminded me a lot of other boygroup concerts. The countdown at the very beginning e.g. reminded me of the Greatest Hits-Tour of Westlife im 2003. But same managements, same choreographies or what do I know 😉 They played many covers, but also own songs. Super show with various dancers, choreographies and different show parts. Different to Westlife they had many dancers with them.

There were several outfit changes during the show: Grey trousers with black wests, then they suddendly were standing on treadmills in sports wear, partly topless. And next to fancy black and white suits with shirts and cool Michael Jackson outfits for the medley, they’ve been wearing colorful 70s jump suits, when you wondered if that wasn’t very imbarrassing to them 😉 At one point they sat around the piano, took a fan on stage or suddendly were standing on a platform in the middle of the audience. Absolutely fantastic.

Yes, and after 25 hours on Irish ground since I had landed in Dublin, my flight took off back to Switzerland. It would have been 24 hours, but cos of a technical problem or something, the flight was 1 hour delayed.
This was definitively a great short trip ^^
