Kodaline at Swisscom Bern

Kodaline @ Swisscom Bern

When we entered Swisscom shop, it was rather empty. Some shop assistants were standing around a bit underemployed, in a corner the small stage got set up. Ha, that’s going to be good! I was sure about. Not even 30mins earlier I had almost fell off the train seat.

My inner fangirl was quite tested on that day.

was written on Kodaline’s facebook page. It was shortly after 1 pm. Me and my companion were going to meet in front of the Stade de Suisse one hour before doors opened. I immediately called her and we were changing our plans, went to Swisscom Shop at Bubenbergplatz. We were the first ones. As mentioned, the small stage wasn’t even set up.

With a delay of 20mins (they had problems at the Energy Air soundcheck – but when are the Irish in time anyway? No offence) the four got off their car then. Through the window we could watch what was happening in front of the shop. The shop was well crowded by now. We made big eyes, when bass player Jay arrived with cast and sling. With abrasions on the head and under the big sunglasses he probably was hidding more. Obviously he has had an accident with his motorbike. I think I’ve read about it on twitter, but was slipped off my mind.

With guitare and shaker the four of them were standing in a row on stage. First they did a few steps closer to the stage edge, but went some back again because of the shocked, repuative reaction of the front rows. I think it didn’t help their nervousness, esp. not front guy Steve. Either he was looking at the ceiling or on the ground, going through his hair nervousily. Silently and cautious he started the first song – “High Hopes”. Mark joined him on the guitare. In the room it was totally quite. You had to listen closely to understand what he was singing. But he became louder then. The first shivers went down my back. He got this something in his voice, so much emotion, and with the other three in the choir then – total goosebumps. The cover “Bring it home to me” followed, when Steve asked the audience to start snipping. More than once he mentioned that it was a little weird to play in the shop. Great, but weird too. And they had never done such a performance. Their hit “All I want” couldn’t be missed of course and additionally they played “Perfect World” as well.

Finally Swisscom gave away 25 x 2 tickets for Energy Air in the evening. The four of them helped drawing them. At the table next to it, they also did a signing after and took photos, before the guys went back to Wankdorf stadium for Energy Air. “I like your Irish eye lid” Steve said to me and I was a little speechless. Until I remembered my green/yellow colours again. And probably I totally blushed. Haha.

An unforgettable small gig. Breathtaking. Totally excited we were off to Energy Air then.
