The Souls at Relay For Life Spiez

On 17 and 18th June 2017 Relay For Life took place in Spiez for the first time, where The Souls played a concert.

Relay For Life

Relay for Life is a solidarity event to support cancer affected people and was taken to Switzerland by cancer league for the first time. The Relay For Life is a relay that goes through the night. The teams take part in turns for 24h either walking, running or jogging. The relay is symbolizing the fight against cancer.

Ahead to the event the teams have been raising donations for the supporting fund of Bernese cancer league. With sales of raffle lots, drinks, lights or balloons for the final ceremony donations have been collected. There was also a donation box.

Allowedly, if The Souls wouldn’t have played a concert there, we probably wouldn’t have known about the event. In this very fast moving time and if you are not affected directly yourself, you often don’t think about it a lot. You won’t notice it. Need to remind myself too. Visiting concerts was already confronted with the cancer theme several times. There were similar events by Krebsliga, including charity concerts.

Charity concert with The Souls

I’ve seen The Souls last at Westside in Bern. Already in the morning it was very hot and even more at lunch time during the concert.

The sun was burning our necks. Yes, you never can put on enough sun screen. None wants to get sun burnt, but to get one at such an event against cancer even less. But the organisers had enough sun screen ready for the visitors.

Most went to sit in the shades under tents and parasols. Everyone was quite in Sunday mood: unhurried, without stress. Some were still a little tired out.

The band started their concert with two new songs. There were even more. They rocked with “Live”, Ryan Adam’s “Gimme Something Good” or “Fighting In the Moonlight”. Besides Michi had gotten the theremin back on stage again after ages and played a cool solo.

Whilst The Souls seemed to cope with the heat pretty good, techniques didn’t. Even the audience probably didn’t notice the silent buzzing from the monitors. Well, so it was the perfect time to go down into the audience to play “Nowhere Man” only accompanied by an acoustic guitar. After some more songs the concert ended with “Run Baby Run”.

The Souls donated all their merchanise sale on this day to the organisation.

After the concert the president was holding a final speech, before the last participants of the 24h relay just came back in time for the final ceremony. For the final ceremony they let baloons fly into the sky with a wish for a cancer affected person on it.
