The Souls in Basel

If you google Terrorsamba in Basel, then at the most you’ll find unpicturesque articles and infos about its past. By friends from the area I didn’t get better informations either. On photos the location looks small and very special. Would at least a handful of people show up? General infos about the event we couldn’t really find. The show time we got confirmed by the band. Even you love the band, with at Show time set only at 11 pm, so you really think about twice whether to go (or if you can go at all). But probably also because of that we went there: To support The Souls at their 1st Basel concert, no matter how the evening at this location would turn out. We were positively surprised then.

We were welcomed by an accappella group, who created great atmosphere with funny lyrics and matching, little choreographies. No clue, if they are there more often, did a bar-hopping or how they exactly got there. A little shivering we kept waiting in front of the door (it’s actually still a little fresh at this time of the year and day), until they finished their performance, so we might still get into the location.

The front part of the location looked a little like a pub, in the back room we found the bar with a small stage. First impression? Well, they have played on smaller stages before. Hehe. The staff seemed nice. We did worry for nothing. Shortly before concert start more people kept coming into the bar. The only thing I personally found disturbing: Smocking inside was allowed.

Differently than expected at such a place, the concert started very in time. But they already had to be through their programme by midnight. The audience appeared numerous. Already with the first song – this time “Silverain” again, followed by the rock number “Live” – The Souls thrilled the Basel audience. There was a good atmosphere. Quite, but not too quite. Very laid-back and in a good temper.

Do you know the strange, green Christmas lights that last year were sold by Mediashop? With this the band was illuminated. Quite special, but pretty cool. To our surprise some visitors even knew the songs really well, esp. “Close My Eyes” and “Run Baby Run”. Once again a great concert, at which I got the impression, the band as well as the audience had a lot of fun.

A really great first concert in a new city. The location and surroundings weren’t at all as bad as expected. The small night trip to Basel really was worth it.
